BCRC

News from

BCRC on Facebook

If you're a fan of the BCRC, join the BCRC on Facebook.

Quotas Increased

We have increased page quotas to 300 pages. The BCRC steering committee is considering a "pay-per-page" model for printing. If you would like to have input into the decision, please send your comments to bcrc-help@bio.umass.edu and the committee will be able to consider your remarks.

Print Release

We are updating the printing system in the BCRC. There is now a Print Release System that you can use to release your print jobs. The system counts the number of pages you're printing and sets a quota. We have set it currently to 100 pages. Please contact bcrc-help@bio.umass.edu if you have problems using the new system. Thanks for your patience while we work out the bugs.

Log In as You

You can now log into BCRC workstations using your student account username and password. The BCRC login will not go away immediately, but you should start using your own login to get in the habit.

Authentication System Changes

We are moving to a new authentication system in the BCRC (and the department). Currently, you have about 7 places where passwords might exist. If you change your password, it will change three of them, but won't change several others. I encourage you to not change your password this semester and leave it set to your student number. Hopefully next semester this will not be an issue.

Course Accounts Ready

Course accounts have been created for Biology, Microbiology, and classes fromsome other departments. You can look up your username. Your password is set to your student number.

Sigelonta

The printer "sigelonta" can be accessed two ways: as a b/w printer and a color printer. In order to conserve resources, the BCRC allows color printing only of pages you authored yourself for a final-print in a paper or poster. Toward this end, only staff users can print to this queue. To print pages in color, you can ask a BCRC staff member to authenticate for you and to print only those pages you need in color. Black and white printing on sigelonta is available to anyone with an account. Feel free to use this queue when provizonta is unavailable or busy.

Updates

We've installed some recent updates in the BCRC -- we now have the newest versions of Neooffice and Firefox. We're also tweaking configurations: the mice in the BCRC should now let you right-click -- even though there's no right button, the mouse can tell when you're right clicking.
