Research Methodology (BIOL 499E) Application for Fall 2013
ABOUT THE COURSE:
Research methodology is a Capstone Course designed for Senior Biology Majors who are members of Commonwealth Honors College and who are seeking to complete a Capstone Project. To fulfill the Capstone requirement, students will enroll in 499E in Fall 2013 and 499F in Spring. To complete the 499E all students will take the class Bioimaging (you will register only for 499E). Bioimaging is required so that you learn the needed microscopy skills to perform your research. Students registered for 499E will also initiate a literature review, learn about experimental design, and any additional methods necessary for the completion of the research phase of the project. In the Spring semester students will complete the research portion of the Research Methodology and write the thesis. Students are expected to learn the relevant background literature, to perform experiments independently, and to present research data to their peers. Students will examine cell division, and use molecular methods and microscopy techniques to determine the contribution of particular genes to chromosome segregation during mitosis.
Prerequisite: Biology 285.
