- CL = carapace length, from eye socket to posterior midline terminus.
- K = number of ESD at this trawl site.
- N = total number of lobsters at this trawl site.
- SSI = Severity Standardized Index (Landers 2005).
- Land vs Sea = Images for AVI taken on land vs aboard ship (as explained below).
To add specimen rows replicate last line and replace labels with data.
Images (3008 by 2000 pixels = 6 megapixel) were taken with a Nikon D40 with an AF-S Nikkor VR 28-300mm zoom 3.5-5.6 G lens.
Specimens were mounted vertically on a turntable and rotated manually between images taken coronally about the carapace, omitting the lobsters ventral aspect.
The carapace models done at sea (NOAA Ship HB Bigelow, Spring NE Groundfish Survey leg 4) used a hand-held camera to take the images with room lighting. The specimens were live and the carapace structure was isolated in Photoscan using masking of unwanted structures such as legs and abdomen.
The models done on land used a rigid tripod with adjustable height and day-light illumination. The specimens were thawed carapaces whose legs and abdomen had been previously removed. Further removal of unwanted structures was done in Photoscan using its masking tools.
