Arthropod acoustic communication is a primary focus at the Patek Lab. Here you can find our acoustically oriented research projects along with sounds and video of spiny lobsters (Palinuridae) and mantis shrimp (Stomatopoda).
Katsushi Kagaya
Kagaya received his A.B. and Ph.D. in Biology from Hokkaido University. He has been working on neural mechanisms subserving voluntary walking in crayfish (Kagaya and Takahata, 2010; Kagaya and Takahata, 2011). He is interested in neural control of fast movements and has started the study in this lab supported by Japan Society for the Promotion of Science (as a JSPS postdoctoral fellow for research abroad). Combining biomechanics and behavioral neurobiology, he is going to establish a general framework for understanding control principle of fast movements.
