“Evolving and Diversifying”
Our group conducts research at the interface of animal behavior and evolutionary biology, with a particular focus on animal communication. Research projects are conducted in both field and laboratory settings, mainly (but not exclusively) using songbirds as a model system. Current study species include sparrows, swallows, warblers, finches, and grassquits. Podos is affiliated with two graduate programs, Organismal and Evolutionary Biology, and Neuroscience and Behavior (see links below).

Fall 2009
-We welcome Sarah Goodwin to the lab and OEB graduate program. Sarah completed her Master’s work this spring at U. Delaware with Greg Shriver.
-Former lab post-doc David Lahti has started a position as an Assistant Professor of Biology at Queens College CUNY.
-Brazilian biologist Lilian Manica, who is conducting doctoral research under the supervision of Regina Macedo at University of Brasilia, spent the month of October in the Podos lab analyzing data, participating in lab functions, and enjoying a delightful New England fall.
- Congratulations to Matt Rich, who has been accepted in Laura Gough’s lab at University of Texas Arlington for graduate studies. Matt conducted his honor’s thesis in the Podos lab during the 2008-9 academic year.
