| The Petroglyphs were our third stop of the day on the Bordeaux Mountain hike. The Petroglyphs are a group of carvings of unknown origin which are found at this site. We were primarily interested in the small pool of standing water. The pool is refreshed by rain water and is a closed environment to the creatures living inside of it. It contained an interesting array of life. | ![]() A Dried Waterfall |

Multiple people tried their hand at catching some of the life in the pool, but it was to no avail. We needed to call in a professional, Doug Smith. Doug was able to snag a fish out of the pool for us to examine and rerelease. The fish we found in the pool turned out to be a Mountain Mullet. As well as fish we found two or three different species of shrimp and a air breathing aquatic snail living in the pool as well. Adam was able to capture a frog from the pond. He was passed around for observation and then released. |
| Another of the local inhabitants we found was a small lizard who's diet consists mainly of a variety of local insects. Adam showed us the pouch which this lizard had under its chin which it could inflate to impress female lizards into mating with him. After exploring for a while we sat and ate lunch and talked about what we had found living at the petroglyph pool. Once lunch was over we headed on our way up to Bordeaux Mountain. | ![]() Doug Checking Out the Local Wildlife |
