| St. John is a great place to snorkel and an incredible place to SCUBA dive. Those of us that were certified were able to do a good deal of diving while we were down there. I saw some truly incredible things when I was diving. We dove off of the boat we went snorkeling on and we also dove in Great Lameshur Bay. The wonderful thing about scuba is that you can really take the time to get a good look at what is living under the water. | ![]() Lots of Neat Stuff Hides in the Rocks |

I am going to focus in on one dive in particular for this page because it was so spectacular. The night dive we did in Great Lameshur Bay was really neat and I got to see things I had never seen before (Including Sean putting his hand on a Sea Urchin). My buddy and I entered the water and swam out about a quarter mile from shore and then dropped down to about 20 feet of water. It was like being on the moon. |
| It was a gray landscape punctuated by islands of coral which housed incredible amounts of life. One of the really cool things about night diving is that the fish are sleeping, so you can swim right up to them and they don't move away. Its really amazing. As we approached some coral to check things out we were swarmed by little red worms which were attracted to our lights. There were thousands of them. When we got to the coral we found an octopus making his way around looking for food. It was very shy and moved away quickly, but we saw two more before the dive was over. | ![]() I Saw A Fish This Big! |

We also came across a large sleeping Sea Turtle who had wedged himself into a coral bed to sleep. On our way back we found a large group of Spanish Lobsters all hanging out on a rock . It was really a wonderful experience, there is no other feeling quite like it. You feel like you are floating around weightlessly in an alien world. I can't wait to go back for more. |
