| VIERS was where we lived during our stay at St. John and also where we spent most of our time when we were not hiking, snorkeling, or diving. VIERS is located within the Virgin Islands National Park and Biosphere Reserve and is a five minute walk to both Little and Great Lameshur Bays. The camp has 13 cabins which are made up of sleeping facilities, bathrooms, showers, a library, a classroom, a messhall and a lab. The staff was excellent and very helpful with all aspects of our trip. The food at the camp was wonderful! After a long hard day of exploring St. John everyone looked forward to dinner back at VIERS. | ![]() One of the sleeping cabins at VIERS |

Most of our free time was spent hanging around the picnic table in the middle of the camp updating class journals or just relaxing and enjoying each others company. Each night after dinner we would gather in the classroom and have a lecture on subjects ranging from salt water plant adaptations to the St. Johns slave revolt to sponge physiology. The lectures definitely helped give us an appreciation and deeper understanding for what we were encountering each day during our excursions around the island. |
| After lecture we would usually start a bonfire
with wood collected from the surrounding forest by those who did not fear stings, bites and cuts from the local flora and fauna. It was a nice time to talk, relax, and maybe enjoy
something from the VIERS snack bar (Ice Cream Day was a very big event). Soon the fatigue of the days exertions would set in and people would drift back to their
cabins to get a good nights sleep to prepare for the next days adventures. For information on how to contact VIERS click here |
