Biology 497H
At 2:30 a.m. on March 10, 2000, a group of 35 students and professors met in Lot 62. What brought us all out at this ungodly hour on a Thursday night? We were on our way to St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands. Biology 497H is not your typical class at UMass Amherst. We have some interesting classes, but this goes above and beyond any other. The class involves an unusual spring break trip to study hands-on the biology of St. John, one of the most beautiful islands in the world. The trip involves snorkeling, hiking, birdwatching, and optional SCUBA diving.
