Ram's Head

View of Ram's Head (Winnie P.)
The hike to Ram's Head was well worth the trip.  Along the way, we examined the xeric coastal environment plants, most of which consisted of cacti and century plants.  We saw many wild goats living on Ram's Head, a few pelicans, and a Magnificent Frigate bird flapping like a chicken.

Melocactus intortus with fruit (Winnie P.)
The melocactus was especially popular, as they had pink edible fruits that was much like a mix of a strawberry and a kiwi.  The ringleader of collecting these fruits was Zac, wandering almost as far down the slopes as the goats.

Sunrise on Ram's Head  (Zac R.)
Four (Kim, Zac, Rachel, Winnie) went back to Ram's Head one early morning to see the sun rise, since this was the only place it could be seen from the island.  We were treated with an amazing view and a dawn chorus for all our efforts to get up so early, and then we raced incoming rain back to camp in time for breakfast.
