Salt pond
Along the way to Ram's Head, we stopped at the Salt Pond, a hypersaline environment caused when evaporation exceeds rainfall.  There were many earwigs and swarms of flies, and there was a critter under every rock.  Wolf spiders were very common.  Sean waded out into the water suffering the pain of salt on small scratches on his feet to catch us some brine shrimp.  These red shrimp seemed to be the only creature living in the water this year.

"Sea Purslane" Sesuvium portulacastrum (Winnie P.)
There were also plants adapted to the high salt - the sea purslane had small, fleshy leaves where salt was sequestered, and these leaves would later drop off to rid the plant of salt.

From here, we left for Ram's Head....
