Microtubule Nucleation and Growth

These movies show LLCPK1 cells expressing GFP-EB1, which marks the microtubule plus-end. The frequency of microtubule nucleation at the centrosome can be determined by counting the number of GFP-EB1 dashes emerging from the centrosome over time. The cell line used for this work was made by Drs. M. Piehl and L. Cassimeris, Lehigh University. For additional information see Piehl et al., 2004 PNAS 101:1584-1588 [full-text available (PDF,626KB)] and Piehl and Cassimeris MBC (2003) 14:916-925 [full-text available (PDF,580KB)]. Movie sequences recorded by U.S. Tulu.
