Role of Proline-linked Pentose Phosphate Pathway and Regulation of Secondary Metabolite Synthesis, Stress Response and Development in Plants

Research in my laboratory focuses on molecular physiology of secondary metabolite (phenolic) synthesis in plants. We are particularly interested in studying the role of proline oxidation-linked regulation of the pentose phosphate pathway and how this could regulate metabolite flow to purine and aromatic pathways. Understanding this pathway has implications for producing novel plant metabolites for disease preventive and food preservation applications. At a fundamental level, the understanding of this novel mode of regulation also has implications for understanding plant development (somatic embryogenesis and shoot organogenesis) and stress response (salt, pH, aromatic pollution, and ozone).
