May 2009: On Friday, May 22, at the University of Massachusetts Graduate Commencement ceremony, David V. Pollack was awarded his Ph.D. posthumously. The ceremony was attended by David's friends and family members who accepted the degree on his behalf. David V. Pollack passed away of natural causes on December 11, 2008. At the time of his death David was completing work on his Ph.D. in the lab of Elizabeth Stuart and was scheduled to defend his dissertation on January 9, 2009.
