:: UMass Microbiology Retreat ::
February 2009: The Microbiology Department held its annual Retreat and Graduate Information Weekend on Saturday, February 7, 2009, at the UMass Campus Center. The keynote speaker for the event was UMass Microbiology alumnus, Nitin Baliga (Ph.D. '00). Research presentations were also given by Microbiology Ph.D. Candidate, Zarath Summers, and Assistant Professor of Microbiology, Wilmore Webley. Katir Patel was awarded the Curtis Thorne Carry On Award, an annual award given to a M.S. or Ph.D. student for excellence in graduate education. James Holden, Assistant Professor of Microbiology, was presented the Thomas G. Lessie Distinguished Lectureship Award. The award is given each year by the Microbiology Graduate Student Group to a faculty member for their impact on teaching at the graduate level.
