Research

Soil sample from the AmazonSince joining the Nüsslein Lab in March 2009, I have worked to generate isolates of the genus Burkholderia from a hotspot of diversity, the rainforest soil in Amazonia, Brazil, and to improve the lab's efforts in the efficient extraction of nucleic acids from soils rich in humic acids. I am particularly interested in describing the microbial nitrogen cycle in soil, and how it is influenced by human land use change along an agricultural chronosequence from primary rainforest to pasture, and finally, to secondary rainforest.
