UMass Students Head to the Amazon

Eleven UMass Amherst students, led by biology Professor Cristina Cox Fernandes, embarked on a two-week ecology field course during the annual spring flood in the Amazon rainforest. Fernandes, who has studied fish in South America waters for 25 years, coordinated the excursion with Brazil's Instituto Nacional de Pesquisas da Amazonia. Students lived on a modern riverboat and took daily trips in large canoes to view wildlife and collect samples.
