Turners Falls Fishway
Castro-Santos,T.
The fishway at Turners Falls has been the subject of intense study. Fishways are necessary at dams to provide access to spawning habitat, but this one performs poorly for American shad, the most important anadromous species on the Connecticut (and really the East Coast). We've been working to understand why this fishway does not work and have been developing solutions to aid passage at Turners and elsewhere.
