3D reconstruction of American alligator cloacal anatomy

Project Description :

The Kelly lab studies reproductive anatomy in vertebrates: one ongoing project in the lab is describing changes in phallus anatomy within the Archosauria and determining how those changes affected erectile function within this lineage. We recently prepared a pair of American alligator cloacae in thick serial sections, and I am looking for a motivated student to help analyze their anatomical components and develop a three dimensional virtual model of the structure. The student will gain experience and training in specimen photography, morphological analysis, computer-based modeling, and histology.

At a minimum, applicants must have completed Biology 152 and have a GPA of 3.25. Applicants might find the job more intuitive if they have also completed either Comparative Vertebrate Anatomy, Herpetology, or an animal physiology course.
