Curation of UMass Entomology Collection

Project Description :

The UMass Entomology Collection, part of the UMass Natural History Collections, comprises tens of thousands of insect specimens collected over the last 170 years. It is a vital resource for documentation of New England and worldwide biodiversity and how geographic distributions are changing. Paid curatorial assistantships are available to help manage the collection. Responsibilities may include helping to move materials from one facility to another, organizing the collection and adjacent workspaces, triaging and sorting specimens, anti-pest measures such as freezing specimen drawers, maintaining fluid levels for fluid-preserved material, responding to inquiries from reesarchers regarding specimens in the collection, and entering specimen data into databases. The position may appeal to students with a strong interest in insects or natural history collections.
