In general, the assumption should be that if you were the first to post
to the mailing list staying you can cover the shift, you are the one
that will cover it.  Frequently, people will post that they can't work a
shift (due to sickness or a crisis) and you can't expect they will be
able to acknowledge your message.  If there's any question about who
posted first to the list, check the archive:
  https://www.bio.umass.edu/pipermail/bcrc-staff/2015/date.html

Note, as an aside, that we're changing software for the mailing lists
and archives. Currently, if you go to the "list info" page (referenced
at the bottom of each message), the link to the archives is broken: it
uses an "http" for the URL which is wrong -- you can only connect via
"https". But the URL above will work.
