Global Change Biology Initiative

The Global Change Biology Initiative (GCBI) bridges a group of faculty who who use multiple levels of study to approach the question of how rapid environmental changes and pollution impact populations and individual organisms. Such impacts include loss of biodiversity, rapid evolution, evolution of new pathogens, as well as endocrine disruption of development and physiology. We also study ways of enhancing biofuel development to counter these changes. Biology leads the interdisciplinary GCBI with wide-ranging faculty strengths in fields such as plant genetics and cell biology, functional morphology, evolutionary ecology, endocrinology, neuroscience and developmental biology.
