G Quentin Melnick-Kelley

My name is Quentin, I’m a Biology MS graduate from Binghamton University. Coming from an amphibian lab, I’m excited to learn new techniques specific to zebrafish! Since having joined the Karlstrom Lab this past summer, I have engaged in zebrafish husbandry, PCR genotyping, and ongoing experiments focusing on regional brain growth. My current work focuses on mapping the juvenile and adult zebrafish brain. Upcoming projects will utilize a conditionally regulated two part transgenic system (tet-on system) to upregulate or downregulate shh to determine its impact on cell proliferation and differentiation. In my free time I enjoy being outside, hiking, camping, and running; when the weather is uncooperative (as it so often is in New England) I spend my down time reading, drawing, or painting.
